Three Casual Summer Outfits to Copy Right Now

The hot days are finally arriving where I live, and my summer wardrobe is coming together. Today I want to share three casual outfits I’ve been reaching for again and again — simple combinations that take the thinking out of getting dressed.

These looks come from the Summer 2026 Wardrobe & Outfit Guide, which is now available. If you like having a plan before summer fully hits, grab it here: Summer 2026 Wardrobe & Outfit Guide.

Sizing reference: I’m 5’6″ and usually a size S/M (or 6) in clothes, 8.5–9 in shoes.

1. Colored Tank + Denim Shorts + Gauze Button-Up

This is one of my go-to summer combinations because it’s so effortless. A colored tank — I’m wearing light yellow, but honestly any cheerful hue works — paired with medium-wash denim shorts gives you a complete look in under a minute.

The white gauze button-up is optional, but incredibly useful on those mornings that start cool or when you step into aggressive air conditioning. You don’t need a full jacket; just something lightweight to throw open over your tank so the color still shows through. Roll up the sleeves and it looks intentional rather than improvised.

I added a small white necklace because even one detail like that can lift an entire outfit. This brand offers a lifetime repair guarantee, which I’ve come to really appreciate.

2. Gingham Top + Brown Bottoms

Black and brown together is an underrated color combination, and this outfit shows why it works so well. The gingham puff-sleeve top feels slightly elevated without any extra effort — I’d fully tuck it into the camel shorts to define the waist.

If gingham isn’t your thing (it’s not mine either, despite thinking it’s cute), swap in any black-and-white printed top. A striped tee works just as well and keeps the outfit feeling fresh all season.

The trick is echoing colors through accessories: brown sandals or black sandals, a black pendant, gold hoops — everything pulls from the same palette so the whole look feels cohesive rather than thrown together.

I don’t have brown shorts yet, so I went with my favorite lightweight brown pants instead. They’re breathable and honestly some of the most comfortable things I own for summer.

3. Crochet Tank + Red Pants

Tomato red is everywhere this season — one of the biggest color trends for summer 2026. The easiest way to wear a bold colored pant is with a neutral on top. Here it’s a white crochet sweater tank, which does double duty: it grounds the outfit with its structure while adding visual interest through texture.

This particular tank has a relaxed but still shaped fit, and the length works without tucking. I’m wearing size S.

The pants themselves are lightweight linen — the kind of fabric that actually keeps you cooler rather than just looking good in it. They come in straight, petite, plus, and tall sizes; I wear size 6. Find them here.

For accessories, gold jewelry alone is enough. But if you want to lean into another summer trend, add a turquoise beaded necklace — the turquoise against bright red is such an effective color pairing. Finish with tan Birkenstocks or gold sandals; either adds just enough polish without overpowering.

If red feels like too much, this formula works equally well with olive green, navy, or black pants. Swap to a color that feels more like you.

Having a plan with ready-to-go outfit combinations means I wear more of what’s already in my closet. I have three kids and most mornings involve shuttle runs to summer camps or the particular chaos of having no camps scheduled while both parents still work. There is simply no time to stand in front of an open wardrobe wondering what goes together.

I want to feel pulled together so I can handle whatever comes — and I don’t want the quiet guilt of wearing the same five outfits while everything else hangs untouched.

A guide with ready-made outfit prompts makes that easier. The Summer 2026 version includes a capsule of 26 pieces that combine into over 98 outfits, an outfit calendar covering six weeks, and a bonus shopping guide with curated links all in one place.
